The National Communications Commission (NCC) considered the concerns of the Chinese people about the electromagnetic waves of the base stations, and decided to entrust a third-party organization to conduct large-scale measurements of the electromagnetic waves of the base stations. security concerns.

The research team of Yunlin University of Science and Technology sampled and tested 34 4G/5G mobile broadband base stations in the northern, central, southern, eastern and outer island regions of the country, referring to the “Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Wave Detection Method in the Environment” (NIEA P203.92B) stipulated by the Environmental Protection Agency of the Executive Yuan )” to measure the intensity of radio frequency electromagnetic waves.

Project host, Professor Guo Wenzhong of Yunlin University of Science and Technology said that the maximum value of the measurement results is only 0.039% of the reference level value of electromagnetic wave exposure set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the Environmental Protection Agency, which is lower than that of microwave ovens used at home. Home appliances such as razors and razors are safer. “Our safety value is very good, please rest assured.”

NCC member Wang Zhengjia explained the concept in the meeting. In fact, the farther away from the base station, the greater the mobile phone’s transmission power, because the transmission power of the mobile phone will be more laborious. If the number of base stations is larger and the density is higher, the mobile phone can quickly find nearby ones. The base station needs to emit less electromagnetic waves.

NCC officials said that the best service range of 4G base stations is about 600 meters to 1 kilometer, and 5G will be even smaller. Therefore, once the base station loses communication, it may affect thousands to tens of thousands of people if it is in an urban area; now the research results It shows that there is no doubt about the safety of the base station, and I hope that the people of the country can rest assured that they can coexist peacefully with the base station.

 

NCC: 20,000 more 5G micro-base stations will be built together with street lights and traffic lights

NCC member Wang Zhengjia talked about the construction of base stations. He said that two years ago, Taiwan released the first wave of 5G spectrum. The number of units exceeds 35,000, and the radio population coverage rate has exceeded 94%.

Since most of the 5G services provided by telecom operators around the world adopt the Non-Standalone (NSA) networking method, that is to say, most of the current 5G base stations are networked together with 4G.

NCC officials pointed out that 5G base stations are mostly built together with 4G, but the coverage of 4G is larger than that of 5G. With the increasing number of 5G users, it is imperative for the industry to build 5G micro-base stations. It is roughly estimated that at least 20,000 base stations will be needed. The above amount can gradually make up for the areas not covered by the original base stations.
