“6 Block Golden Ratio Time Allocation Method”: within the “block time” agreed with yourself, complete the things you are determined to do during this period

Five steps of anti-interference, focus will not be interrupted

“My God! Where did I get it?”

Presumably we all have the experience of concentrating on something, but suddenly interrupted by external interference, even if we try hard to restore the original state of concentration, it will take a long time to achieve it, or we will not be able to return to the original state at all.

Two hours of being completely uninterrupted and concentrated, and two hours of having to deal with phone calls and text messages at the same time, although the time schedule is the same between the two, there is a big gap in the quality of work.

If you put fixed time and block time in BLOCK6 system, you will see the difference. We generally arrange long-term maintenance items in a week, such as sports, foreign language learning, reading, etc. The block time that does not belong to this category is arranged according to the situation, but at least two blocks or more will be arranged for each occurrence , this is in order to fully devote yourself to work, so it will be so allocated.

Projects or work that requires creativity are especially

suitable for using block time, because if you can concentrate on these tasks without any interruptions, the work results will be much better than using scattered time. In my case, I usually use block time when planning, making decisions, writing, editing.

Not only do I emphasize the importance of block time blocks, the famous “management expert” Peter. Dulac once said: “For knowledge workers, the use of ‘continuous’ time is very important. If knowledge workers want to achieve their goals, they must be able to use continuous time in large quantities, especially all operators.”

Just like Peter. Dulac emphasized that most people spend part of their day as knowledge workers and must also be self-employed. We need to remember this passage.

Bill. Bill Gates is known for his “Think Week”. Twice a year, for about a week at a time, he checks into a cabin with a giant reusable bag full of books and papers. During this period, he will cut off all contact with the outside world, without any interruption, and conduct in-depth research and thinking alone. The top managers of these business circles deliberately strive for block time because they know that such a time period can bring deep investment and extremely high results.

Five Stages of Using Blocky Time

Next, it is divided into five stages to explain how to secure and make good use of blocks in the busy daily life.

  • Phase 1: Pick out jobs that require blocky time

First of all, what we have to do is to pick out the work that has a project nature after writing the to-do list. This kind of work is more suitable for spending more than two hours on research rather than squeezing out thirty minutes or one hour.

  • The second stage: card position

In daily life, it is often difficult to guarantee that you can have a block of time because you are busy with friends gathering, self-study through online courses, physical exercise, etc., so you must first “slot”.

I usually reserve blocks of the month at the beginning of the month, and then plan in advance what to do, how much progress to implement, and when to implement it before other things take up my time.

After listing the tasks picked out in the first phase, then decide when and how much progress things should be carried out. If the plan is clearer, the more you can feel how precious the block is, and the more intelligent you can deal with the additional agreement. Carding in advance, clearly defining what to do within that period of time, and the amount of execution progress, this is the most important part of the five stages of using block blocks.

  • Stage Three: Forgetting

After choosing a time, please “forget about this matter” first, and don’t think about it all the time: “I will do this, and I will do that, when will I finish it?” This will create a feeling of being urged. If you’re not used to thinking like this, you’ll be overwhelmed by things you don’t have to do immediately, making it difficult to focus on the present. Please focus on the present moment, and forget about the things to do in the future for the time being. You can rest assured, because the time to do those things has already been reserved.

  • Phase Four: Setting the Environment

Create an environment that can fully utilize block blocks, like Bill. Like Gates, the method of implementing a “thinking week” and living in a cabin for a week is an environmental setting.

When I was writing my book, I moved to a meditation village in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do for a week. Some people may think that there is no difference between writing at home alone after the husband goes to work and going to a meditation village to write, but in fact there is a big difference. If you stay in the so-called home space, you can’t focus your thoughts, such as thinking about sweeping the floor, washing clothes, rice cakes in the refrigerator, etc. Fundamentally speaking, there is a big difference between the state of devotion and the space away from all these. Because of this experience, I learned how much the surrounding space, sound, temperature… have an impact on my concentration.

After returning home, whenever I encounter blocky time blocks, I will start with the “environmental settings” and try to find a way to get myself involved as much as possible. For example, switch your mobile phone to “Do Not Disturb Mode” and log out of the computer version of kakao talk (Note 1), and you will feel a completely different level of immersion.

Please find a way to focus yourself in the block and completely isolate yourself from the outside world!

  • Stage 5: Do it unconditionally

Everything is ready, now just do it. When I’m doing block blocks, if I feel like I can’t sit still, I try to hold on to a sentence until the end. This sentence comes from the sentence in the novel “Magnificent Writing Hell” written by Jo Jungrae (Jo Jungrae), a writer with Dahe novels (Note 2) “Han River” and “Arirang”.

“If the novel is not going well, don’t try to use other methods to change your mood. You should get closer to the desk, make up your mind to write to the end, and then stay away from it.”

I hope that we can all get stuck one month before that period, and complete the things we are determined to do during this period within the “block time” agreed with ourselves.
